TV / STB Middleware 'Opal'
A turn key solution
In the old days of Interactive Television the middleware, the software layer inside the settopbox, was important to enable digital broadcast services. The existing middleware systems are expensive and interface achievements are limited comparing to the open source technology in the web world.
To overcome these disadvantages we have invested in a new technology and combined an open source technology within a settopbox environment and created the functionalities which are well known in the market of Digital Television.
Together with our client whose bringing Digital Television by Fiber to the Home, we created the product "OPAAL" and launched this product successfully in the Dutch market in about 80.000 households.
"OPAL" is a turn key solution for broadcasters and digital TV distributors to enable all EPG, VOD and OTT services without making use of expensive middleware solutions.
On a basic settopbox (in our use case Amino's 110/120/140/532/540) with an Opera browser, we created a full working EPG and PVR adjustable for different clients. The OTT services are a possibility as well, like integrating external VOD services of third party's.
The technology is completed by a mobile API, which enables (third) party's to integrate Tablets and Mobile phone applications.
This turn key solution will be suitable for all Tiar 2 company's, with restricted budget and high ambitions, to create a compelling service to their Digital TV subscribers.
